JYS was began in 1963 by Reverend Guy, a Jacksonville pastor who was inspired to provide assistance to homeless in Jacksonville, particularly young males who were on the street, in detention centers, and without hope. The agency was called World Good News, Inc.
In 1969, the ministry expanded to include a half-way house for substance abusing teens. The programs and services continued to evolve, and in 1985 World Good News, Inc. registered to do business as Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary, and has continuously provided residential group care services. In addition we provide Targeted Case Management and Behavioral Health Overlay Services to other youth in the foster care system.
Today, with the cohesive leadership of our Board of Directors and strong Management Team Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary is able to continue to build on its early successes and offer a full continuum of care for Jacksonville's youth.
